Family Reunion Visa for Spouses – Checklist for Indian Citizens

Required Documents

• •Valid passport (issued within the last 10 years, with at least two empty pages)
• •Visa application form & declaration (signed, 2 copies)
• •Two biometric passport photos (recent, identical)
• •Declaration for additional contact and legal representation (signed, 2 copies)
• •Additional questionnaire (completed and signed)
• •Copy of passport pages (first & last page, all entry stamps/visas) of both applicant and spouse
• •If applicable: Spouse's German residence permit and residence certificate (Meldebescheinigung, not older than 6 months)
• •Proof of marriage (based on marriage type):
  • -Hindu Marriage Act: Registration certificate, priest certificate, conversion certificate (if applicable), wedding photos
  • -Sharia Law: Registration certificate, Nikahnama, conversion certificate (if applicable), wedding photos
  • -Special Marriage Act: Marriage certificate (Section 13), wedding/function photos
  • -Christian Marriage Act: Registration certificate (if applicable), church-issued marriage certificate, conversion certificate (if applicable), wedding photos
  • -Marriage outside India/Germany: Certificate with apostille/legalization (if applicable)
• •Birth certificate (issued under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1969)
• •School certificate (matriculation, Middle School Board, or school leaving certificate with date of birth)
• •Proof of residence in India (Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Voter ID covering the past 4 years; for non-Indians: valid visa/residence permit for India)
• •If applicable: Divorce decree of previous marriages (both spouses), German divorce decree with final judgment confirmation, or death certificate of a former spouse
• •Proof of German language proficiency (A1 level) (Goethe-Institut, telc, or ÖSD certificate)
• •Health insurance confirmation (family coverage through spouse or travel insurance until established)
• •Visa fee (payable in INR)
• •For Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai applicants:
  • -Spouse's invitation letter, employment contract, salary slips (last three months)

Important Notes

• •All documents must be submitted in original plus two A4-size copies
• •Documents not in German or English require notary-attested English translation
• •Additional documents or verification may be requested
• •Incomplete applications, refusal to attend the visa interview, or false information may result in rejection
